I really appreciate the feedback given to me by those who come to my classes, and I try to remember to put some of it on here from time to time (with permission from the person who sent me it, of course!).  The first section comprises feedback from people who come to general weekly classes and/or private tuition sessions. The second section is feedback from women who have done prenatal yoga with me.

Weekly classes and/or Private tuition sessions:

Just a little line to say thank you for such a lovely yoga session this morning!  You have a nice teaching method – relaxed and informal but reassuringly supervised.  I am delighted to report that my old bones feel great!  Laurie

At the risk of sounding gushing, I’m really loving the classes in a profound way – thank you.  Dawn

…the whole session was excellent.  Well planned and clearly presented… The guidance on breathing was particularly valuable.  I felt it made movement into stretches and poses more fluid and helped me to time holding a stretch or pose and to become more aware of the small effects on the muscles being worked… I hugely enjoyed the relaxation ending.  And I’ve been feeling physically well tuned all day since.  Jim

I have found the classes brilliant –  level and manner of teaching are really, really good.  Liz

My friend is impressed by my level of fitness on our daily long walks this week (and some have been 4 hour plus stints). She said 1-2 years ago I would not have lasted the distance and been out of breath, but now I am clambering over rocks and talking at the same time. She has noticed a big difference in stamina and agility. It’s a combination of general croft work, not sitting at a desk or in meetings and a huge part of it is yoga so I am determined to continue, as I do not want to go into my 60s unable to go a decent walk.  So thank you for being ‘Yoga in Borve’. You are extremely good at teaching yoga. It’s a great talent when you can make a difference. You can now go for guru status after your name!  Yvonne

I am so happy to have found you – you have such a calming influence that makes the yoga so enjoyable! It is really making me get back into yoga practice again after a long lay off.  Judith

Thanks so much for a lovely class this morning. We have both said to each other that it’s a shame we cannot attend on a regular basis.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.  Next time we are on Skye we will definitely be contacting you!  Jo and Rob

Amazing – Hobbled into class this morning practically crippled.  Walked out!!  CA

I really enjoy your style and especially the way you come round and correct us. So many teachers expect that we know exactly where our bodies are in space and we usually don’t – I never do! Jane

I wanted to let you know what a difference starting yoga has meant to me and the real gift the classes in Borve have been to me. A gift to myself, in the time to myself, but also the joy, pleasure and confidence in my body, which I had lost and thought it was all heading downhill from here. Now my muscles work again and their strength is surprising; a wonderful feeling of holding my skeleton together in a good posture and the correct way. The flexibility and strength I now have all down my spine, movement in my shoulders, and stability in my feet and ankles is a wonder to me and a pleasure to feel. All this while relaxing, breathing deeply and being aware of each muscle group being worked well and in proper order, is a great compliment to the work you put into planning each block, with such skill and wide knowledge. It is impressive and I for one appreciate it very much. So now, as I approach my 50th birthday, I am looking forward to continuing with yoga as a gift to myself, with the confidence that my body which has served me well so far, but I thought was deteriorating irrevocably, now is improving and hopefully will serve me well for the next chapter. My thanks to you, Catherine, you are a great teacher! Christine

I emailed Catherine out of the blue for a group yoga lesson while we were on holiday in Skye. She hand-crafted a session for my group and was extremely responsive when planning. We really enjoyed our class and felt refreshed and ready to climb a Munro the next day. Will definitely book another session next year! Miranda

Testimonies & birth stories from Yoga for Pregnancy classes/courses:

We welcomed Finn into the world 9 days early, weighing in at 8lb15oz. All doing well and slowly adapting to life being responsible for a tiny human! I have to say I used various bits of yoga practices during my labour and running up to it. I was taken in to be induced a few days before, without much luck mind you. I had really bad swollen legs and feet, so used a few different stretches on those. I had access to a birthing ball, spent several hours each day on that. During the actual labour I was on a CUB chair, it’s an inflatable seat similar to the ball but you just can’t roll off it! The breathing techniques were great, and I could just zone out and concentrate on my breathing. I managed the whole thing on just gas and air! After Finn arrived, I struggled with my lower back, couldn’t put weight on my right leg or even carry Finn. The swollen feet didn’t help with this at all. It has taken about 3 weeks to get back to some sort of normal. Hope to be back at Pilates/yoga after Christmas. Jen.

Really enjoyed all three pregnancy yoga classes that I was able to attend; have highly recommended it and will continue to do so. Loved all the breathing and relaxation techniques. Was great to see all the different range of movements I could still do even at 31 weeks! The whole thing was very relaxing, especially when you’re an ‘on the go’ person! Lorna

Eve was born on Monday at 5.43pm (a day early). I ended up being induced on the Monday morning because my waters broke 3.30am on the Sunday. My contractions were irregular and didn’t start until the Sunday evening. (I spent Sunday on the gym ball and went for a long dog walk in the sun before we headed to a hotel in Inverness). They said they don’t like to leave you after 24 hours because of risk of infection, so being induced was the only option. I was told I coped very well with the birth and I have no doubt in my mind that it was all down to everything you have taught me. I couldn’t move around too much once I was induced. But in the hotel throughout the night I was using the ball, Cat/Hare Swoop, rocking, etc. and some breathing, mostly Golden Thread breathing to cope with the pain. Once I was induced it was mostly the breathing I was using and some wee tips from Ina May’s book. I had diamorphine around 1pm which wore off by 4pm so I did the rest on gas and air. I did ask for an epidural at some point once the diamorphine wore off and I hadn’t dilated much throughout the day. I had told them beforehand I wasn’t keen on an epidural so they talked me out of it. Which I’m glad they did. At that point I was trying what I read in Ina May’s book, thinking about opening up and dilating more – I went from 7cm to 10cm in literally no more than a minute! Thank you so much for everything. I have just been so calm and positive throughout my pregnancy and the birth, which was all down to you and Ina May! Hopefully I’ll make it back to classes once I’m settled with Eve. Fiona

Just want to say how much I enjoyed your prenatal yoga classes. Never thought yoga would be something I’d enjoy but I loved it. Baby Allan John arrived a week late. A healthy 8lb 3oz. My entire labour experience was amazing and that is very much down to the techniques you taught at your classes. So thank you so much. Emmajane

I suffered from pelvic girdle pain from quite early on in my pregnancy and yoga definitely helped with this. There were certain moves I couldn’t do, but I found the class really useful and it was great how you helped me adapt most of the moves so I could do them. I found the gym ball a great tool and used it almost every day when I went off on maternity leave. I also found the DVDs you recommended very useful for my home practice once I stopped coming to the pregnancy class, especially the one with the special routine for pelvic girdle pain. I had a little boy called Willie on 5th December. He’s amazing! I had to have an emergency section in the end, but I really found the yoga breathing helpful through my contractions, before it was decided I needed a section. The midwife commented on how good I was at the breathing, actually! So thanks very much again for the classes – they definitely helped me. Karen
